Do You Ever find Yourself Saying or Wondering the following…..?

“Giving things or helping people living on the streets just makes them more comfortable and makes them want to stay in the streets”.

I have heard it said many times and i have had it said to me personally many times.  

Most times i find it is the very people who do not go out and make contact with those in the streets that are making these statements.   Including some who run/operate the very nonprofits that are supposed to be helping those in need.  

My response to all is simply two fold:

1) God and His Son Jesus want us to help them. 

 

2)  Just how “comfortable” can you be sleeping on the concrete, in the woods, or in an abandoned house or even in a tent in an
approved” tent city in the scorching heat, cold and or rain?

Think about this…………and i sort of apologize for the graphic bluntness, BUT…..just how comfortable would YOU be having to poop in the brush and wipe yourselves with newspaper or leaves or clothing?  Seriously.  Even when you go camping you are happy to get home to your clean bed and shower.

NOT, everyone out there in the streets is “mentally ill”, or an “addict”, or what ever other excuse you would like to throw at me.  And so what if they were?  

Would Jesus turn away from them?  I do not believe so.

 Straight Ahead Outreach will not either.
