  8)  $50 to buy paint & paint the inside & parts of the outside of his Mobile Home

  9)  $41 for miscellaneous cleaning supplies, pots and pans etc.

Yes!!  We are in the Clear!!  Whooo Hoooo!!!

We are in the Clear on paying the June lot rent for our 66 year old U.S. Army Combat Veteran of the Vietnam War.  

Formerly Homeless as of 5/30/2013!!  Another Whooo Hooo!!

Late last night STA received a very generous Donation of $250 from a repeat donor!  This same donor helped STA Prevent Street Homelessness for a family of 8 back in February. 

That donation when added to the funds already on hand from other donors of $258 completes the balance we needed to pay the June lot rent!

THANK YOU to ALL who have Donated to help us help this Veteran!

This is Extremely exciting!

We cannot Thank You ALL enough!  

Now that we are in the clear on this Veterans lot rent, STA can concentrate on the other miscellaneous repairs and upgrades needed for this Veterans new home and concentrate on letting him heal.

He calls his new home….His “Healing Place”

***These are the things we would like to accomplish now which were planned in our original Goal of raising $3000.00:

1)  A new window style Air Conditioner.

2)  A nice Used Stove

3)  Repair/Secure Shower piping

4)  Re-do his decking and build a privacy rail or screen it in.

5)  Paint the inside and outside areas

6)  Repair gutters

7)  Pay his Electricity Bill

8)  Obtain Cable TV service for him

9)  Purchase some pots and pans etc. (he does not need a lot)

10)  Purchase more groceries for him to last him a month or so.  (he receives $16 in food stamps)

11)  Pay his lot rent for one more month, the month of July.  Why?  Simply, So he can have some fun.  He has been homeless much to much to long and deserves a little break.

He gave his life by serving as a Combat Veteran in the Vietnam War, life as you and i know it today.  His service and the service of many others like him is what made it possible for you and i to live the lives we are living right now.

We believe he deserves a little something special….Yes?

Let’s ALL give him the Heroes Welcome he and his Military Brothers should have received in the first place.

What is He doing?  He is “Taking Back His Life”

Since August 24th, 2012  STA has been assisting in one way or another, a 66 year old U.S. Army Combat Veteran of the Vietnam War.

He has been homeless for a very very long time.  Much too long.

It has been a very difficult long road since August 24th, 2012.

We are almost in the Clear but not quite.

Ok, i admit it, i am panicking a bit, but trying to rely on Jesus to come through and move you to Donate to this Veterans needs.

We are short by $250.00 to pay the first month of his lot rent for this month of June.  We need to come up with the funds by tomorrow, Thursday 6/13/2013.

To make a very long story short….on this 5/30/2013 STA got him into a place of his own in a very quiet and peaceful, 55+ mobile home park here in Clearwater, FL.   In a small 55+ community where the park manager is simply awesome!

With the help of some priceless friends of STA, we have been raising funds here to help this veteran settle into his new home and do required repairs, make needed purchases for his home and safety,  furnish his home and provide him some groceries.

STA has done a great deal of work already, but we are not through.

We have a Total Goal of: $3000

We have raised: $685.00 of that goal from generous donors from across the country and into the UK. In addition to that $685 raised, my wife and i put in $175 of our personal funds.

***The goal is to prevent this U.S. Army Combat Veteran from accepting funds from a different source which if he did, would disqualify him from future very valuable VASH benefits he is entitled to as a Veteran.

In addition, we wanted to cover the several repairs needed of which we have already done the first major one, being a new water heater and install. We also plan on covering the first two months of his lot rent so he could relax a bit and concentrate on living, learning how to have a life and build a life.

With Donations, We plan on painting the inside of his home, re-doing his deck outside and building a privacy rail or screened in porch.  Painting his new concrete stairs a neighbor of ours brought to him yesterday.  Thank you Keith! Painting the brick garden area outside and repairing his gutters.

We have picked up and brought him a really nice refrigerator donated by my wifes work, Concurrent Technologies Corporation of Largo, FL.

We would like to purchase also a used stove for him.

We need more funds, more donations to do all this work and more.  We know he will need more groceries.

***UPDATE:  As of late last night, 6-12-2013 we received a generous donation of $250 from a kind soul who has donated to STA before.  We cannot Thank him enough.   We are now In The Clear!  Now we can concentrate on other repairs and upgrades as possible but are no longer in panic mode.

Most important though is the $250 we are short on to cover his lot rent of $508 for this month of June, the first month he is in his new home.   We already have $258 sitting in the bank from generous donors, waiting for the $250 needed to pay the rest of the lot rent.

He’s a Hippie, Drifting in 2013……

In our daily trips here and there and doing what we do here at STA….

We have been seeing a homeless man with his dog for the last week or so…

We always feel badly when we see this as the dog may need food or water or rest just as bad or even more then the human it is with.

I came back and told Pat that i was going to put something together to bring to him and his dog.

Pat put together a hot meatloaf sandwich and scalloped potatoes for the man. We also brought him water, juice, fruit, utensils, a roll of summer sausage and a few other items.  I put together a large bag of dog treats, a water/food bowl and dog food for his dog.

I went to look for him and found him and his dog laying down under the Gulf to Bay Blvd and McMullen Booth overpass taking a nap here in Clearwater, FL.

I introduced myself and asked him if there was anything i could do for him or if he needed anything.

He stated….food for me?  He had food for his dog there already.

I advised him we had food for him in the van.  He asked if i could bring him close to a Walmart.  I said sure.

So we loaded him, the dog and his belongings into our Mobile Crisis Outreach van.  As you will see below his dog made himself very comfortable :-))!

The homeless man proceeded to tell me he was a Hippie and that he was trying to get to Murfeesboro, TN to go to the Hippie Fest there.

I dropped him by the nearest Walmart so he could get some needed supplies.

Off they went….

“I am having a blast over here”…..

It is raining pretty good here today….

I just got off the phone with our 66 year old Army Veteran.  He can be very hilarious.

I am giving our 66 year old formerly homeless (as of 5/30/2013) U.S. Army Combat Veteran a little space the last two days.  It gives him time to unwind and relax and it gives me time to catch up on numerous other tasks and people.  It has been a really rough couple weeks for him.  Lots going on with moving in, making repairs and all to his new forever home.

STA brought him  a television, VCR, DVD, and my personal stereo that my wife Pat bought for me for my birthday a while back.  It’s a nice compact stereo with great sound, CD player and cassette player.  He did not want it at first.  Then, when he and i went to our storage facility to get his TV, he asked if he could have the stereo i mentioned to him.  I stated absolutely.

Now he can listen to his Bible tapes he got at a Thrift Store we went to in Largo.

He started telling me how thrilled he was the headphones he had fit not only in his tiny transistor style radio but also in the TV and his cell phone.

He was extremely excited because he does not want to have the volume up to loud on the TV, stereo etc.

So i asked him…do the headphones fit on the stereo??

In the most upbeat voice i have heard from him in a while he boomed….

“Oh Yeah yeah ,,,its great!  Yes they fit in the stereo too and i can listen to my Bible tapes and CD’s!!…..I am having a BLAST over here!”

I laughed out loud very loudly.

To use my wife’s words, He sounded like a kid in a candy store! LOL! 

I am still smiling from hearing him.

Tears one day…heavy laughter the next….that’s how it goes.

I am thankful Jesus Christ helped me to locate a home for this Army Veteran straight down the street from where my wife and i live..it’s only 8 blocks away from our driveway.  That includes 3 blocks of driving through our mobile home park to get out to the street!  :-))! 

I can’t tell you how good it was to hear the excitement in his voice when he said…

“I am having a BLAST over here!”

He hasn’t had a Blast in over 40 years

Priceless Blessings from friends of STA….

In our efforts to help set up and make required repairs to the recently obtained Mobile Home in a really nice, quiet little 55+ community in Clearwater, FL…the home of a very recently formerly homeless U.S. Army Combat Veteran of the Vietnam War as of 5/30/2013…STA has had the fortune of receiving blessings from numerous people to help raise funds to to help with this need. 

He moved in on 5/30/2013 – You may go HERE to read more about him on our dedicated page for his specific need.

With the help of some truly awesome people known and unknown, along with friends and relatives, STA has been able to put together….

$685.00  Awesome!!   Thank you ALL!!

ALL of it, every penny…100% has gone to this U.S. Army Combat Veteran’s current need.

***Please Help us! We are still $395.00  short of our minimum Goal to pay his Lot rent and Water Bill for this Month of June. We need to obtain that amount by no later then this Thursday 6/13/2013 per the Mobile Home Park manager.***  The Veteran will begin paying his lot rent, water bill and electricity in July.  (We may still need to help a bit at times)

Our original Goal was a Total of $3000.00 in order to pay the lot rent and do several needed repairs and more.  We want this new home to be awesome for him.  

That leaves us short by: $2315.00   We had wanted to cover his lot rent for two months originally.  These funds would let us do that and maybe more.  We need to redo the floor of his deck and put up a railing for some privacy, maybe screen it in even.  Some required repairs are needed in the bathroom for the sink faucet and shower head piping.  Repairs are needed to the gutters.  We would like to paint his new home inside and out for him.

We obtained this Mobile Home for this Army Combat Veteran but there are several repairs which need to be done in order to make it comfortable for him.  What He deserves.

Some of the repairs are required by the park.  Those have been completed with the funds already raised, the $685.00.  They included a new water heater and the installation costs, paying his application fee,  paying the deposit for his Electricity service and getting the electricity turned on obtaining furnishings, groceries and more.

The greatest part about all this is after 9 months of paying his lot rent and water bill (Total of $508 per month) on time he will own his mobile home free and clear.  They will turn over the title to him!

Awesome!  He has never had his own place.

Help STA keep him in there and set it up so he can settle into what this 66 year old U.S. Army Combat Veteran calls…

A Much Better Day Today…One of Many to Come…

We are continuing to move “Straight Ahead”, in helping our 66 year old U.S. Army Combat Veteran in “Taking Back His Life.”

Between yesterday and today the Water Heater was installed which we purchased at the Home Depot in Clearwater, FL with a generous $300.00 Donation from a friend I met on Twitter 4 years ago.

A lot of new piping needed to be installed, a new access door made, and a new electrical junction box installed for electrical hookup.  It was a tight cramped space.

Another friend of which I also met on Twitter 4 years ago has helped STA raise the needed funds to be able to pay for the install labor of $200.00 for the Water Heater by reaching out to his friends and making a donation himself which saved us today.  In addition this same groups donations made it possible to purchase groceries for this 66 year old Army Combat Veteran. 

In addition, today this Army Veteran helped us pick up a large very heavy steel shelving unit that my wife Pat’s work, Concurrent Technologies Corporation donated to STA.  We greatly appreciate it as it will help us further organize our storage facility.

0608131409It has been a great deal of activity going on for the last week since last Thursday 5/30/2013 for this formerly homeless Army Combat Veteran of the Vietnam War.  It has been extremely difficult for him at times and extremely uplifting for him at times.  He has worked hard this last week. Really hard. We pray for his success daily…minute by minute actually.

He is hilarious, brilliant, strong and wanting to have a life.  

He deserves it don’t you think??

After all…He gave in Combat,  in order for you and i to lives the lives we live today.

We consider it an Honor to be helping him get into, make repairs and get settled into his new home.  His Home.

We will be there for him after he is settled in also.

He calls it….His New Home……”A Healing Place” because the park manager has been so nice.  She has gone above and beyond.  Also, because it is quiet with a nice breeze coming off the water.  

The location is definitely unique. That is what we look for.

We are still in need to do several repairs to complete his new home and make it comfortable for him.

$508.00 is needed by this coming Monday/Tuesday 6/10 or 6/11 latest so we may cover his lot rent for the month of June.  He will begin paying the lot rent in July.

Our Total Goal is $3000.00 in order to make several repairs and upgrades to his new home.  

So far we have reached $555.00 of that Goal.

The Difference……

I felt the need to explain a few of the differences between Straight Ahead Outreach(Taking Back Your Life) Inc. (STA) and other 501c3 Nonprofit Public Charities.

I will use the current situation with our recently formerly Homeless U.S. Army Combat Veteran of the Vietnam War.  You may read more about him by clicking HERE.

STA Brings Hope Provided by Jesus Christ to Those In Need

It is Jesus and His Father God Almighty’s plan and design…we play by their rules.  Period.

Jesus and His Father God Almighty Require us to do the following:

1)  For each person or family STA helps they must be advised the assistance they are receiving is from them, through other caring people.

2)  It must be done one-on-one and we must do everything ourselves.  In other words, No Passing The Buck.  This allows us to get to know their needs and personalities much much better.

3)  No Vouchers handed out.  If they need furniture, appliances, clothing, transportation, shopping done, job search, housing location and negotiations/applications and much much more.  Whatever the need may be, if we are able to do it, we must do it ourselves and also accompany them of they need or want us to.  

4)  TIME:  We must spend extensive Time.  Again, this allows us to get to know their needs and personalities much much better.  As in the case of the Army Veteran we are helping we go to him 2-3 times per day, seven days per week and we spend typically 4-6 hours with him from 10:00am – 2pm or 4pm and then go back about 6-7pm and spend another hour or so with him.  In between we will either go assist someone else we are working with or go back to our home office and handle business duties.

Today we had a tropical Storm come through the Tampa Bay area of Florida where we are trying to get a **formerly homeless** 66 year old U.S. Army Combat veteran set up in his home.

The Plumber was scheduled to install the new water heater today but the storm prevented us from doing so.

We will try for tomorrow morning.

1)  $175 is needed by tomorrow (Friday) at 2:00pm for the install labor on the water heater so we can get water turned on in his home.

2)  $500 is needed by Monday to cover this Combat Veterans lot rent for June.  He will take over the lot rent payments in July.

The beauty of this Veterans new home is it is NOT located in a Public Housing Facility or HUD facility or anything of that nature.  It is in a nice quiet 55+ Mobile Home Community in Clearwater, FL. right by the waters of Tampa Bay.

STA does not prefer to utilize Public Housing.  It is one of our last resort options.

 We have done a great deal for this Combat Veteran with those funds.  More then you can imagine actually as it involves much more then simply money or things.  It is the time spent with him doing the things we can do with your donations.  THAT is where the impact is made.  In the “Time Spent.”  Healing starts to take place.
