Education. One of the many end results we strive for by the Services we provide through our Showers of Hope Mobile Crisis/Intervention Unit is to help our Friends In Need in obtaining their Diploma/GED by helping them stay on track and encouraging them to stay in school or by introducing them for example to Tomlinson Adult Learning Center in St. Petersburg, FL. By helping them through their Crisis’s we can provide them Hope and help them build on a positive attitude, so they may concentrate on their schooling. Along with the help and cooperation of centers Like Tomlinson Adult Learning Center this becomes a priceless asset to our Friends In Need.

What can services like these help?

1) It can help our Friends In Need find employment easier.

2) STA strives to lessen the amount of young people 18-30 and or the length of time they are placed on unnecessary disability, therefore relieving some of the burden on the communities, counties and states budgets.

3) Improving the economy.

4) Preventing, Stabilizing and reducing Community Deterioration and Social Decay.

Pictured above you will see one of our Friends In Need, Miss Donna. We have assisted her since May 2008 when we first met her, through another one of our Friends In Need while Donna was living on the streets of Knoxville in her wheelchair. She is physically disabled, confined to a wheelchair and also lives with a brain injury.

We Need Your Help Please. Today. Right Now. We pray to Jesus, you will help.

We are needing to raise Emergency Funds for our Showers of Hope Mobile Crisis/Intervention Unit (pictured above) to drive from St. Petersburg, FL. to Oak Ridge, TN., 720 miles one way, stay for two weeks and return to St. Petersburg, FL.

We have an emergency situation now with Miss Donna as she has been given a warning of eviction by the property management where she lives. The management have been extremely awesome where Donna lives, they have been more than wonderful to Donna. If they are forced to evict her she will once again be on the streets homeless. We want to prevent that.

I, Lance Greene, Founder of Straight Ahead Outreach (Taking Back Your Life) Inc.(STA) will personally drive in our Showers of Hope Mobile Crisis/Intervention Unit pictured above to go spend some quality time with Miss Donna and get her calmed down a bit, get her to see her Doctor, get her electric wheelchair repaired and purchase personal needs/incidentals and food for her. While i am in the Oak Ridge/Knoxville area i will also take time to see some of our other Friends In Need within the City of Knoxville, TN.

Our GOAL is to raise: $2700.00 for a two-week trip to Oak Ridge, TN. to help the apartment complex deal with some issues with Miss Donna, so they do not have to. You may Donate by clicking on the Donate Button by each item listed. Any dollar amount helps, but please, we need it now, Today. Please, this must happen very quickly so we may try to prevent Miss Donna from getting evicted and becoming homeless once again. She has lived here in this apartment since we placed her there in 2008. The following are the needs for this trip, we Thank You in advance and ALL monies will go directly to help Miss Donna. Your donations are tax-deductible as we are a 501c3 registered nonprofit.

1) Gasoline: $550.00

2) Motel/2 weeks: $500.00 Vista Inn of Oak Ridge

Monday 5-2-11

The photo chosen for todays header is of a child. Look close at her. She looks like any child you may or may not know. She looks smart, with a very strong personality and character. She looks intuitive. She looks full of a fun sense of humor. Children like the one pictured here today and or ones younger, older or just the same could be found homeless in just about any city across the globe. We, as Adults need to practice some prevention. There was a time we used to. What happened? Let’s make a decision together TODAY, to make a Change…….for Our Worlds Children.

Children are so very very important, yes, yet we all are. Although, when one is a Child, is when we have the gifted opportunity to make strong, positive impressions and effects on them to carry them through the rest of their lives.

When we are Children is when we either learn to be funny, mad, sad, loving or hateful or prejudice.

It is when we build and develop character upon the personalities Jehovah gave us and Jesus longs to maintain. It is when we are so very fragile, yet strong, excited and curious, yet vulnerable and oh so very impressionable.

It is us adults, parents, friends and relatives of Our Worlds Children, who must make the decision TODAY, to make a positive influence, a building block of impact on childrens lives. To teach them how to display and build upon their character and strengthen their personalities so as to NOT possess prejudice, anger, depression, hate, but rather to show quite the opposite.

It is Time to teach them Compassion/ Caring of others, patience, quality discipline and restraint of their tongue, thoughts and actions. It is Time for us as Adults to do the same as we teach the young ones. We must be the example. Let’s all practice some prevention of Emotional Damage to Our Worlds Children and in turn prevent Social Decay and Homelessness one Child at a time, one life at a time, one personality at a time. It can be done, just make the decision in You TODAY. Its Time. NOW, the question is, when, when are we considered a child? How does our creator see us? Maybe as always HIS Children? Wow, so what does that mean then? I will leave that up to you all to interpret in Your own way.

The items below are what we call our Fundraising Events. They are conducted here on our website. They Are ALL Urgent. Big events out in public have high costs and bulky logistical needs attached to them. We want all the money to go directly to the need and not to bulky, costly endeavors. **Please Be Aware. Although we would like to, at this time we do not take any salaries here at Straight Ahead Outreach and your Donations are Tax Deductible under the full extent of the IRS 501c3 Code. 100% of your donations go to further our work and improve the lives of others.

Please Help Today! If Not You, Then Who?

1.) 4-11-11, Amount Needed= $350.00 – We currently have one of our working poor Friends In Need who is a 50 year old single Father of two and is in severe need of new glasses. Can you help today?

2.) 4-11-11, Miss Donna, Amount Needed+ $10,000.00 (dedicated) – We have an ongoing need to raise funds for our Disabled Friend In Need in Knoxville, TN. Miss Donna is always in need, just as you and i are of things such as toiletries, clothing, bed linens, female pads, cigarettes (her entertainment), food, cleaning supplies, help with rent and utility bills, transportation costs and more. We are also wanting to raise funds to purchase Miss Donna a new outdoor Mobility Scooter (approx $6000.00), so she may get out of her apartment more often, safer and have a better quality of life.

3.) 4-11-11, Amount Needed= $1500.00 – We are needing to make a one week trip to Knoxville, TN from St. Petersburg, FL to assist Miss Donna and 7 other of our Knoxville, TN Friends In Need. We would like to do this as soon as possible. Please help today!

4.) 4-11-11, Amount Needed= $3200.00 – Miss Edna, of Knoxville, TN is a 72 year old women who is homeless. We are trying to find her housing in a creative way and are needing these funds to pay her rent for up to 6 months. We have people in place to help with her other needs both physically and monetarily. Can you help today? If Not You, Then Who?

5.) 4-11-11, Amount Needed = $15,000.00 – $30,000.00 – We are in need to replace and upgrade our current 1995 Chevrolet Cargo Van which we use as our Mobile Crisis/Intervention Unit and has over 230,000 miles on it. We would like to purchase a larger unit where we could build a better interview area and have more cargo room.

6.) 4-11-11, Amount Needed = up to $5000.00 – Economy Vehicle needed to do daily Outreach activities such as transportation to appointments, jobs, and more where we do not need to utilize the Mobile Crisis Van.

7.) GAS GAS GAS, Always! – Without gasoline, or the funds for gasoline we can do nothing. We can take monetary donations or we would be happy to receive Gas Gift Cards.

8.) 4-11-11, Amount Needed: $6000.00 – We would like to purchase 3 motorized scooters to be used for our qualified Friends In Need who are advancing in their journey to Take Back Their Life. These would be used for them to use to go to work, appointments, shopping etc. They would be STA property and provided on an as needed basis. They would also be used for our Outreach in the streets when the Mobile Crisis Van is not needed.

9.) 4-11-11, Amount Needed: $1500.00 – Needed to supply vehicle insurance for our van for one year.

Sometimes people wonder, How can i help others? How can i prevent someone from slipping into regressed, severe depression and finally homelessness or suicide?.

How can i prevent Damage?

Wellllll, remember when you were a kid? And you just could not wait to be an Adult, because you couldn’t wait until you could do anything you wanted to do? Well as you may or may not have found out, the reality of it is, no one, not even us wonderful adults, can do anything we want to do.

What am i talking about? We, anyone, whether a child or an adult simply must be careful what we say and do to each other.

We simply cannot say whatever we want to each other. What we say can do harmful and severe Damage. Damage which is many times possibly irreversible or nearly impossible to repair. Damage, Kills, drives people to depression, alienation, isolation, homelessness and suicide and yes, in that order. However, sometimes, what we say or do, just might be that last straw for someone, and they decide it is enough and take their life before they become homeless, before they isolate or alienate. So, is it not better to prevent the Damage in the first place?

We simply cannot do whatever we want to do to each other for the very exact same reason.

So, what do you do? The easiest way for me to explain, is to start with Jesus. If you are about to say something to someone which you know in your mind is going to make them feel bad, but you are going to do it anyway….STOP…..ask yourself, how would Jesus handle this situation? What do i think Jesus would say. Picture Him responding to that individual and respond in that way, not the way you had planned.

Does this take effort? Does it take concentration? You bet it does, and we have that obligation to each other and to Jesus, to do just that.

What if you are an Atheist you ask? Well, hmmmm, good one. OK, well i will say try what i said anyway, but if that is not something you agree with as an Atheist, then use your Compassion, Desire not to harm, Thoughts of good, Drive to Help and Knowledge of pain and strive not to do Damage to others. Ok?

We ALL do it, yes even us Jesus followers, Buddhists, Born Agains, Catholics, Lutherans, you name it, we ALL do Damage to each other.

We ALL, Have To Stop.

Not believing in someone and calling their ideas “Stupid” can do Damage. Telling someone they are a loser over and over again loses it’s “kidding” feature and does Damage. Name calling to anyone, joking or serious does Damage depending on the person. You must understand, listen to and know the person. I myself have been guilty of this recently in a joking way and have had to check myself.

Negative thoughts expressed to a spouse or anyone about them can lead to repeated suppressed Damage that kills the relationship at the very least or kills the person literally via suicide. By killing the relationship many times the end results are homelessness as seen in the order of effects listed at the beginning of this blog.

Damage, think of what you are about to say or do……..could it possibly do Damage to this person? Damage is harm, it Kills.

Facts, as hard as they may be to swallow sometimes, do not kill. BUT, be careful with your facts! What is the reason you are stating the facts? Is it to do Damage? Or is it to truly help and educate?

Please, ask yourself….How would Jesus handle this, before you do Damage to another. Or, if you want you may call us and we will give you direction using Jesus’s guidance. :-))!

Help Needed ASAP For Our Disabled Friend In Need

As of 10/15/2011 this need is still needed and urgently.

Since 2008 we have been assisting a 41 year old disabled, formerly homeless woman from Knoxville, TN. She is featured here on our website on the DONNA page.

Right now, there are a few situations of which are becoming monumental for Donna and our assistance with her/for her.

We are in great need of monetary help to help her. 100%, 100% of any and all funds we ever receive for DONNA goes to directly help her. Always. Again, we take zero salaries here at Straight Ahead Outreach Inc.

Currently, Donna’s electric wheelchair, which is only going on 2 years old has broke down due to her going out in the rain with it. It needs repair, in order to get that repair we must get her to go to the doctor to be seen, so the repair company may obtain an RX for the repair. Yes, you need a prescription to get a wheelchair repaired when people are on disability. THAT in itself is a huge undertaking just to get her to agree to go.

Second, the wheelchair she has is designed for in home use primarily and she likes to go traveling around her neighborhood to Wal-Mart etc to entertain herself. The problem is, this current wheelchair does not have batteries big enough and they wear down too quickly stranding her. People have to be called to bring her back. It is not pretty. So, it is our desire in order to improve her quality of life, to raise funds to repair her current chair which will need a new control box, and to purchase a new Travel Scooter so she can go out without worrying about getting stranded. The new Travel Scooter would be approx $6000.00 and the repair of her current chair for her home would be about $500.00. $6500.00 total.

Third, since we are primarily in St. Petersburg, FL now i myself need to raise funds to travel to Knoxville ASAP, as i did last September to help with Donna. Haul her wheelchair to be repaired in Knoxville from Oak Ridge and numerous other things. EXCEPT, the goal this time would be to talk her into coming here to Florida, to be close to us and where we will place her in an Assisted Living Facility instead of the regular apartment where we have her now in Oak Ridge, TN. It is simply time for the ALF. We have been trying to let her remain as independent as possible as that is her wish. However, it is simply time for her to be in an ALF. Problem? She has already refused to move.

Once we have her in an Assisted Living Facility, she will have a whopping $54.00 left per month to get anything else she needs.

So, we need to raise funds for the following:

1) One Week Trip to Knoxville ASAP: $3800.00 – this includes the following

- $500.00 – Gasoline roundtrip and while in Knoxville. It is 700 miles one way. Plus mileage there.

- $200.00 - For Emergency Repairs on the road.

- $500.00 – 4 Commercial Tires for Mobile Crisis van as we have 3 damaged with screws and one with a sidewall tear due to the areas in which we travel in our outreach.

- $300.00 – Motel for one week in Oak Ridge, TN at the Super 8.

- $300.00 – Car Rental for St. Petersburg while i have the Crisis Van on the road.

- $1000.00 – This is for just in case i succeed in getting Donna to come with me to Florida but something happens on this end and we need to place her in a motel for up to a month.

- $1000.00 – This is for ongoing incidentals needed for Donna such as clothing, food, supplies etc. for six months.

I need to be able to go with this amount of funds in case i get her to agree to come to Florida. IF, you choose to donate, you may tell me specifically what portion you are donating to and if I do not use that portion, then we will gladly refund that donation portion back to you. For instance, if you donated $500.00 towards Donna’s Motel in St. Petersburg, FL and she does not come, we would refund that amount immediately unless you advise us to keep it for other needs. What we would then do is put it towards Donna’s incidental needs as she never has enough to give her quality of life.

Next, the Scooter Chair and repair of current chair. We need to Raise $6000.00 for this portion to purchase Donna a proper Scooter Chair and repair her current household electric chair so she can travel outdoors without worrying she will run down her batteries.

Folks, this IS Urgent please.

TOTAL FUNDS NEEDED GOAL: $9800.00

**We are aware this is a good deal of money, but it does take a good deal of funds to help each and every Friend In Need we help. Some take more then others and those disabled with physical and mental health disabilities such as Miss Donna has, it does take additional funds to insure their quality of life and to keep them calm.
